History of Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS)
On 23 July 1979, a General Meeting of the Computer-related scientists and technologists in Bangladesh was held in the Seminar Hall of BUET. In it, the Constitution of Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS) was accepted unanimously and the office bearers of the first Executive Committee of BCS was duly elected. Prof. Abdul Matin Patwary then Director of the BUET Computer Centre and Chairman of the Department of Electrical Electronic Engineering presided over the General Meeting. In this connection, a press release was issued.
The first meeting of the Executive Committee of BCS was held on 26th October 1979. In this meeting, three sub-committees were formed for the functions:
ii. Examination &Training
iii. Research & Publications.
Application form for membership of BCS was finalised.
A joint meeting of the Executive Committee and the Convention was held on 20th March 1980. It was decided to take necessary steps for the registration of the name of the Bangladesh Computer Society with the Government and to submit an application to the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Government of Bangladesh for donation.
The first annual convention of BCS was held in December 1984. In it, Diplomas were awarded for different categories of Memberships and Fellowships. In this convention, DCMLA, Air Vice-Marshal Sultan Mahmud was the Chief Guest and the Chairman, NCC, Major General Muhabbat – Jan Chowdhury was the Special Guest.
